ISP Challenges

In today’s world of rapid network expansion, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) must respond quickly to bandwidth growth, new access technologies, and growing competition as they move into new markets. Additionally, this requires top engineering talent, colocation space, strong network peering designs, and dozens of other technical considerations. Core Transit found its niche in offering many of these resources through an “as a service” model to ease these challenges.

The Core Transit Solution

Core Transit was built from the ground up as a Network Function Virtualization (NFV) company designed for ISP operators. With a fully N+1 redundant cloud, Core Transit offers ISPs a resilient and high-performance network. The full ISP as a Service offering is highly customizable and can include 10-400 Gig capable internet edge routing, blended IP connectivity optimized for the consumer, Carrier Grade NAT (CGNAT), Broadband Network Gateway (BNG) services, monitoring, support, and other network services such as Radius, DHCP, DNS, and others.

The services can scale horizontally to nearly unlimited capacity depending on the ISP’s business needs and requirements. The design gives operators peace of mind when scaling, allowing the focus to remain on business growth rather than constant reengineering and capital projects. Because the solution centralizes subscriber management with a netElastic BNG, it also simplifies ISP deployments making access technology migrations. Any mix of wireless or fiber to the home clients would be equally simple to bring through a Core Transit deployment, further simplifying operations and management.

CGNAT and BNG Services

When choosing a vendor for CGNAT and BNG services, Core Transit took a technical approach to solving an ISP’s business problems. To meet the needs of complex ISP operators the solution needed to be a Swiss army knife of capabilities. Of course, netElastic CGNAT and vBNG were an excellent fit.

netElastic is DPDK-based for peak performance in virtual environments, which was the first major factor.  Additionally, the capability to roll up CGNAT, BNG, and advanced routing capabilities on a single platform was another. This allows Core Transit to adjust network capabilities over time without a forklift change to the infrastructure, resulting in better reliability and ROI for everyone. Finally, the support and partnership with the netElastic team rounds out the strategic advantages. netElastic has been nimble in both working with a new consumption model through the Core Transit offer as well as being very responsive to architecture and support questions throughout the journey.

Conclusion

Ultimately, each service provider network differs, while many operational challenges and constraints are somewhat similar. netElastic, as part of Core Transit’s ISP as a Service offer, may be an option to consider. Routing, CGNAT, and BNG as a service can deliver a unique way to power your next wave of broadband expansion. Please get in touch with netElastic or Core Transit to learn more!
